Cars to look out for in 2019

2018 was a fantastic year for cars, we saw the incredible McLaren Senna, the brilliant Ford Fiesta ST and the futuristic Jaguar I-Pace. But 2019 is already setting up to be even better, there are so many incredible cars in development currently, from the bottom end cheap and cheerful city cars to the fastest cars on the planet. Here are just 5 cars you should keep an eye out for in 2019.

McLaren Speedtail

The Speedtail is a return for McLaren, a return to making some of the fastest cars in the world. Despite being 25 years old, McLaren’s previous top speed super car,  the McLaren F1 is still up there with the fastest cars in the world with a top speed of 240mph. The Speedtail is McLaren’s long in development replacement with a top speed of 250mph. Designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, the Speedtail features a long sleek tail unlike any other current road car, this speed machine will be taking the world by storm in 2019 and currently has very little competition to go up against.

Toyota Supra

The concept for Toyota’s updated sports car has been floating around for a few years now but amazingly Toyota have yet to reveal the final production model. There are hundreds of images of a heavily camouflaged model and even a racing version available online but we have yet to see an official reveal from the Japanese giant. Expected to be powered by a 3.0 litre straight six engine the Supra should be revealed at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show.

Land Rover Defender

Ever since its death in 2016 car fans have been craving a new Defender. Its simplicity and ruggedness grabbed attention from enthusiasts around the world. The long rumoured replacement for the Defender is expected to be finally revealed in 2019. Whilst many are hoping for a return of the old rugged Defender it is far more likely we will get another luxury offering from the makers of the Range Rover. Since the new owners of Jaguar Land Rover took over gone are the simple tasteful off road cars, replaced by shiny, garish luxury cars. Land Rover no longer exists, there is only Range Rover.

Honda Urban EV

This cute and quirky electric concept from Honda led the way for the company’s electric revolution with a second Sport EV also in the pipeline. The Urban EV is a cute little electric city car, think of it as a futuristic Fiat 500. Its cutesy styling may not be to everybody’s tastes but I think it’s a fantastic combination of retro and future styling. The final production model has been in testing for a while and is expected to be revealed later this year. You should be seeing these in showrooms in late 2019 to early 2020.

Mercedes AMG One

When I talked about the McLaren Speedtail earlier I mentioned that it had very little competition to go up against, well the Mercedes AMG One is that competition. This incredible machine is powered by the same 1.6 litre V6 engine in Lewis Hamilton’s Formula One car, only this version produces over 1,000bhp. Whilst official stats are yet to be revealed it is expected the top speed will be in excess of 230mph. It will certainly be an exciting time when we finally see both the Mercedes One and McLaren Speedtail battle it out.

Frankfurt Motor show 2017 round up

The Frankfurt motor show is going on right now in Germany, with the great and the good from around the car world coming together to give us a look at what the showrooms will look like in 2018 and beyond. There are far too many cars to go through to list them all so I thought I would list my highlights from Germany’s premier motor show.

  1. Kia Proceed

Not to sound like a school report but Kia have improved greatly over the last decade, their growth has been impressive and turned them into one of the companies to look out for in the future along with Hyundai and Skoda. The Proceed is yet another amazingly designed concept car that follows the likes of the Stinger and Novo cars from previous years. The striking sweeping rear end follows the likes of the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake in its aggressive approach to an estate car.

  1. Honda Urban EV

Whilst the Honda Urban EV is clearly a concept at the moment its inclusion on this list is purely because of the attention it drew at the show. The Honda Urban EV is a future electric car expected in 2019, whilst no specs have been revealed people are amazed by the way it looks both modern and retro at the same time. The looks have been compared to everything from a VW Golf MK1, to a Peugeot 205 and I even see a little Nissan Cube creeping in at the front there.

  1. BMW X7

This thing is big, like really big. The X7 is an upcoming luxury SUV for BMW expected in 2018. The BMW X5 is a big car already but the X7 is even bigger at 5 metres long. BMW are trying to take on the giants in America from Lincoln Cadillac and Ford. But on European roads the X7 will dwarf just about anything.

  1. Borgward Isabella

Back in 2015 Borgward returned with the BX7 an SUV designed to take on the Mercedes M class and BMW X5, and they pretty much faded away after that. But now they have returned again to Frankfurt to unveil the concept for their prestigious Isabella. Named after their car from back in the 50’s the Isabella is a 4 door electric car, and whilst no new specs have been revealed Borgward did say they wanted it to be one of their flagship models. Its unlikely this new Borgward adventure will succeed as they are fairly forgettable and have a silly name, but prove me wrong Borgward.

  1. Mercedes AMG Project One

The star of the show that drew all the eyes and stares from all around the arena was the Project One. The Formula 1 powered hybrid monster is set to take to the roads in early 2019. This new Mercedes monster looks like a combination of the McLaren F1 and Mercedes CLK GTR (and even looks a bit like a Spyker from above). The Project One is going to be up against tough competition in the Aston Martin Valkyrie in the hyper car battle to end all battles. This 1000BHP monster hybrid uses the engine from Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 car to take it to a top speed of more than 218MPH and from 0-124MPH in 6.0 seconds, certainly an amazing machine set to take the world by storm.

What were your highlights from the 2017 Frankfurt motor show, let us know in the comments.
